The Turia’s Nature Park, located in the province of Valencia, shows a vigorous and varied landscape with a remarkable diversity of habitats and species of fauna and flora. The area is home to important elements of historical and geological heritage, as well as ancient sites from the Bronze Age, such as the Lloma de Betxí settlement; or from the Visigothic period, like the fortified settlement of “Valencia la Vella”.

After the great fire that burned down the area in 1994, neighbourhood associations, environmental groups and citizens’ groups began voluntary work to protect the Baix Turia.

On 13 April 2007, the Turia’s Nature Park was declared the second natural park in the metropolitan area of Valencia, after l’Albufera Declaring it a protected natural area ensures that the environmental, historical-cultural and educational values of a highly populated and industrialised area are preserved.

The Turia-Guadalaviar River and its banks—of great ecological interest—, the Mediterranean forests of pine trees and bushes, and the medieval Valencian farmland are representative of this natural area.

The Park covers an area of 4,684 hectares. The section of the Turia River that lies within the Nature Park is 35 kilometres long and runs through the municipalities of Valencia, Quart de Poblet, Manises, Paterna, L’Eliana, Riba-roja del Turia, Benaguasil, Vilamarxant, Pedralba, Bugarra, Gestalgar and Chulilla.
