Moors and Christians

The Moors and Christians festival is a manifestation of Valencian cultural heritage which commemorates the battles fought during the reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula.

In Manises, we commemorate these clashes in a joyous and celebratory manner every July.

The colourful parades, the music and the spectacular shows delight local and visitors alike.

Though it is a fact that numerous places in the Comunitat Valenciana hold these festivals, not all of them have our city’s history, taking into account the fact that we have been celebrating it since 1979.

Since it was first established by the Comparsa L’Albardí, participation in the same has grown year after year, with a total of twelve groups currently taking over the streets and enacting battles and victories.

The following groups make up the Christian faction: Artal de Luna, Maseros, Els Boïl, Bukaneros, Els Castellans and Cruzados Templarios. On the side of the Moors are: L’Albardí, Kelvíes, Mitja Lluna, Al Nasir Salah Ad-Din, Filà Tuareg and Almoravides

They all take part in the parades in which approximately 2,500 people are involved, and which are a source of light, magic, colour and showiness.

If what you are looking for is a magical and joyful experience, then you must not miss our Moors and Christians festivals.
